Großdeutschlands Kampf — Wilhelm Ziegler (Reclam, Leipzig, 1941)

A first-year retrospective of the Second World War as told by the Reich itself. Written by Wilhelm Ziegler — a senior official in the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda — this 1941 Reclam edition surveys the war of 1939/40 in politics and military conduct, illustrated throughout with photographs and campaign map sketches.

As a primary source it is unusually direct: this is the regime narrating its own early victories in real time, produced for a domestic readership. The book was later placed on the postwar Soviet occupation zone's index of literature to be withdrawn from circulation — a marker of its authenticity as period propaganda and of how thoroughly such material was suppressed after 1945.
