Die Fahne Hoch: Three Biographies of Horst Wessel is a book containing three biographies of Horst Wessel, an SA member in the National Socialist Party that became a well-known propaganda figure in the Third Reich.
Horst Wessel was born in 1907 and was a leader of the SA operating in Berlin at the time of the political clashes of the National Socialists and Communists in the last days of the Weimar Republic. After his murder in 1930, Wessel became a political martyr for the National Socialist movement.
Another achievement of Horst Wessel is the lyrics of Horst-Wessel-Lied, which originally had the name Die Fahne Hoch and became the anthem of the Nazi Party; later it became the national anthem of Nazi Germany.
The book is published by Antelope Hill Publishing and translated to English by Kiske van Aalst and contains three historical biographies: Horst Wessel: Life and Death by Erwin Reitmann, SA Sturmführer Horst Wessel: A Portrait of a Life of Sacrifice by Fritz Daum, and Horst Wessel: Through Storm and Struggle to Immortality by Max Kullak.
These modern historical biographies provide primary source material on Nazi propaganda, Sturmabteilung, political violence in Weimar Germany, and political martyrdom in the Third Reich.
The book is interesting reading for those researching Nazi Germany, politics and ideology of World War II, and the history of the rise of the National Socialist movement.
